Lavoir Foulerie
The Foulerie wash house
"Hands in water"

Hands are agile when it comes to washing fabric and cloth, woollen cloth clothes made from raw materials grown by the river… they rub, beat, scrub, soap, wash, rinse, bleach and dry. The washer women's hands move with the speed and skill they inherited from ancient times.
Mainly located upstream and on the left bank of the River Eure, the wash houses were places where the working women of the lower city met and talked by the constant flow of a river that drove the local economy in the background. A pair of hands, working a piece of material in light and shade, is projected onto a sheet, hanging under the awning.
