Lavoir Gloriette
The Gloriette water-house
"A garden just above waterline"
A
large flower garden, crossed by paths, lead to the river, beyond
the quai Gloriette, in the past. It was not replaced until 1900,
when the Caisse d'Epargne in Chartres built houses for workers.
A richly-decorated floral fresco of water lilies, daffodils, irises
and syringa rolls out its plant carpet to the foot of the two
wash-houses, and decorates the walls like a roll of wallpaper
made of thousand flowers in addition to all the sounds of nature.
The music of Chabrier rolls through these flowers, and I certainly
love them! ".
