Lavoir de la Grenouillère
"Le Moulin Saint Père"

The lower town is wrapped in constant mist due to the permanent dampness caused by the river as well as by the trades and crafts that used the held back waters (mills, dying mills and tanneries) thus maintaining a permanent humid atmosphere… The Saint Père mill, with its wooden wheels driven by the strong current from La Courtille, stands by the "Pont de la Grenouillère". In 1200, Guillaume le Vidame gave this mill to the Saint Père en Vallée Abbey monks which is one of the twenty paddle wheel mills scattered along the river Eure : grain mills and tanning mills worked on the river until the 19th century to mill wheat and crush wood. Some of the other mills were named Captivel and Tomblaine, Tibelin and Roger, Chaume and Cinq Ruelles, Cochefilet .
