The historically rich city of Chartres, dominated by its superb cathedral, listed as a UNESCO world heritage site, deserved to have a popular festival. It was naturally essential to make the best use of such a heritage envied by so many. Chartres is also known for its wonderful stained glass windows : heritage and light had to be linked together.

Chartres en Lumières was under way. September 2003 was the beginning of a great adventure, an artistic and human adventure and an encounter between the citizens of Chartres and visitors.

This website presents the city of Chartres as you have never seen it before.

20 different sites were scattered all over the city from May to September 2008, with an exceptional event, the Festival of Light, that took place on the 19nd and 20rd September. Enjoy your virtual visit.
