Theater of Chartres

Illusions

No need to go inside, the Chartres theater reveals its secrets on its illuminated façade. You begin your discoveries by following a love affair in the backstage of the theater. 12 moving pictures will follow and will pay tribute to the arts of the living spectacle.

Take a front row seat to a Vaudeville play on the building's façade. Thanks to its Italian structure, its sets and other mechanisms, the theater becomes an accomplice of a young woman trying to escape from the man who is trying to seduce her. Theater within the theater, the monument plays the main role in this amorous chase, where the traditional theme of Love is revisited with humor and lightness.

A little history

Designed by the architect Piébourg and inaugurated in 1861, the Chartres theater is typical of the opulent buildings constructed during the Second Empire.

The theater has preserved its period machinery with its system of counterbalanced poles allowing the scenery to be arranged at will.
